When paired with large-capacity built-in ovens, dishwashers, and other sizable kitchen appliances, storage and operational space can be increased by up to 30%. For most small- and medium-sized apartments (6–10㎡), an “L-shaped” layout is more appropriate. This layout makes efficient use of corner spaces to delineate functional zones: the frequently used induction cooktop and rice cooker are positioned on the longer countertop, while the sink and refrigerator are placed along the shorter side. Additionally, stepped wall cabinets can replace conventional floor-to-ceiling designs—providing lower-level storage for commonly used cooking utensils and upper-level storage for infrequently used items, thereby solving the challenge of reaching items stored in higher areas.
For mini kitchens measuring 3–6 square meters, the “single-line” layout is the optimal choice. It’s essential to adhere to the principle of “separating water and electricity”: keep the sink at least 80 centimeters away from the induction cooktop to prevent water splashes from causing short circuits. When selecting kitchen appliances, prioritize stackable designs—for example, placing the microwave oven above the rice cooker, or opting for an integrated induction cooktop that combines frying, stir-frying, and boiling functions into a single unit, thereby saving up to 40% of countertop space. It’s worth noting that corner areas tend to create storage dead zones; by replacing traditional corner cabinets with pentagonal cabinets, you can increase storage capacity by 25% while making it easier to access kitchen utensils.
The layout design should also allow for adequate adjustment space: When installing a range hood, the distance between its lower edge and the surface of the induction cooktop should be maintained at 65–75 centimeters. If the distance is too close, there’s a risk of bumping into the hood; if it’s too far, the smoke extraction efficiency will drop by 20%. For built-in kitchen appliances, ensure that sufficient heat dissipation gaps are reserved in advance—leave 5 centimeters of space on each side of the oven to prevent heat buildup and extend its service life.
